The Complete Music Learning Experience

Theory Lessons

Music theory is about understanding the language of music. Studying music theory not only enables you to read music fluently but also gives you the ability to compose music, understanding how scales and harmony work. For those learning an instrument most exam boards require you to take a grade 5 music theory exam before progressing to the higher practical exams.

Jonathan Delbridge has over 14 years' experience teaching music theory and pupils have consistently gained excellent results in ABRSM exams with one pupil gaining a prize for achieving the highest grade 6 exam result in that particular session. Jonathan has a DipMusTh(ICMA) diploma in music theory which he gained with distinction in 2011.

In addition, Jonathan is able to provide extra tuition to those studying towards GCSE or A-level music. Pupils often look for extra tuition in the listening, composing and theory parts of the exams and also for support in preparing for their performances and rehearsing with the piano accompaniment.

Lessons are held at JD Music Services' studio, which is conveniently located in the centre of Crewkerne, Somerset. Music theory lessons are currently £31 per hour and are 30, 45 or 60 minutes duration.

"Theory is absolutely essential. It has not only underpinned my advancement on the piano, but has also allowed me to turn my hand to a gamut of other instruments. Jonathan's capable tuition and guidance allowed me to perform admirably in this key discipline."
